Trainer Thomond O'Mara received a welcome boost as Master Marvel came out on top in Mulvihill Media Handicap at Killarney.

O'Mara is currently in hospital suffering from gallstones but his 7-1 shot was evidently in top form for the mile event.

Ebor winner Gary Carroll looked to have the race in safe keeping when Steig cruised to the front but he found little for pressure and was worn down by Toraidhe

Kevin Manning must have thought he had done enough on Jim Bolger's gelding but Wayne Lordan got a good tune out of Master Marvel to prevail by a neck.

O'Mara was represented by fellow trainer and neighbour Danny O'Connell, who joked: "Thomond is in hospital and wanted to discharge himself last night, but the nurses wouldn't let him!"

Monahullen Prince (7-1) ran out a length-and-a-half winner of the Ross Golf Club/Killarney Racegoers Club Handicap despite trainer Ger Keane not planning to run the eight-year-old.

The Trim handler admitted "I had intended running Monahullen Prince at Ballinrobe and forgot to take him out of today's race - I even forgot to declare his usual cheek pieces and tongue tie!"

Johnny Murtagh's decision to give up two rides at York paid off as Banyan Tree landed a stylish first success in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

Beautifully bred being by Danehill Dancer out of dual Classic winner User Friendly, Banyan Tree had finished second on his two previous starts but justified odds of 1-3 as he easily accounted for Maverick Man < Tarankali (4-9) also obliged favourite-backers as he cruised home by nine lengths in the J.B O'Sullivan Builders Ltd. Race.

Ruby Walsh and Gordon Elliott combined to good effect as they teamed up to take the Ladbrokes Gold Rush Handicap Hurdle with 7-2 chance Grand Opera

Walsh had to settle for third in the M.L Lynch Civil Engineering Ltd. Maiden Hurdle as favourite Huckle Buck Shoe finished behind 11-4 shot Hard To Please
