Ben Dalton's ice-cool ride on Star Power enabled them to cause a 33-1 upset in the richest race on Kilbeggan's card, the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle.< He Is Top Class led the field at the final flight, but Desmond McDonogh's charge hit top gear on the run-in, and Dalton squeezed him up the inside to score by half a length.
That sparked a big-price double for Dalton as he booted home By The Banks in the Midland Breeders Supporting Kilbeggan Beginners Chase.
Denis Cullen's charge was a completely unfancied 66-1 chance, but in an eventful race he was always handily placed and kept on to beat Georges Conn by a neck.< Comehere Hi benefited from a patient Thomas Doran ride to land the Kilbeggan Opportunity Maiden Hurdle for trainer James Nash.
Held up at the back of the six-runner field, the 9-4 chance made eyecatching headway before the second last and edged ahead of Meadowlands at the final flight before running on to score by four lengths.< Eric The Third broke his maiden tag at the ninth attempt with a gutsy display to land the Like Kilbeggan Races On Facebook Handicap Hurdle.
Andrew Ring was content to send Philip Rothwell's charge to the front a long way out and though a loose horse forced the 9-1 chance a shade wide on the final turn, he still had enough in hand to beat Banker Burke by a length.
It was a red letter day for jockey Kevin Darcy, who rode his first winner as Denis Hogan's Boherna Lady (9-4 favourite) kept on best of all to land the Pat Doyle Memorial Handicap Hurdle.
Donagh Meyler was another cool customer as he came from the back of the field on Paul Nolan's Illtakeitfromhere (3-1) to land the Kilbeggan Patrons Club Handicap Chase with some ease.
