de Bromhead lands emotional win
Carleton Place was an appropriate winner of the Brian Griffin Memorial Handicap Steeplechase as the local runner was landing a race called after a great supporter of the track.
Andrew Lynch led on the Beneficial gelding bypassing five out and he gamely held off Good Decision and Loch Na Beaste by three parts of a length and a head.
Winning trainer, Henry de Bromhead said: "I thought we were beaten but I'm delighted, absolutely delighted to get this win. Brian (Griffin after whom the race was run in memory) was a great friend. His son Barry is a good buddy as are all his sons.
"It is great that the win was for Herb too as he is a great supporter of us and of the game. This horse had been working well and he looked like he was off a good mark.
"He got some ride of Andrew; he drove him around there as I wouldn't think tight tracks would suit him. He jumped deadly and we'll see about tomorrow (he is in the lady riders maiden) but he has probably done his job."
Shane Jackson was stood down until the 14th after suffering bruising to his neck and nose in a spill from Timmelman at the third fence.
