Review curragh 29th Jul

Sat 29th Jul 2017, 17:40

Aidan and Donnacha O'Brien took centre stage at the Curragh with a treble.

Not for the first time this year, a Ballydoyle juvenile made great progress between starts number one and two as Ballet Shoes landed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden.

Only fifth on her Naas debut, the daughter of Galileo tracked the pacesetter New To Town until going after her inside the final quarter-mile, and she had the measure of her fellow 7-4 joint-favourite by a length and a half at the line.

Her stable companion Fleet River (4-5 favourite) made it third-time lucky in the Sycamore Lodge Equine Hospital Irish EBF Maiden.

The War Front colt also improved between his first couple of outings and did so again, although he had to pull out all the stops to see off the persistent challenge of Goodthingstaketime by a neck.< Pavlenko rounded out the three-timer with a dominant display as the 11-4 favourite in the Extra.ie Fillies Maiden.< Ringside Support (5-2) denied the father and son team a four-timer when holding World Stage in the Extra.ie Maiden, but Joseph O'Brien got in on the act when saddling Apparition to land the Irish Daily Mail Amateur Riders Derby (Q.R.) Handicap.

Derek O'Connor hit the front at the furlong pole on the 2-1 favourite and then kept enough up his sleeve to fend off the late challenge of Time For Mabel by half a length.< Ice Cold In Alex (10-1) sprouted wings late to claim the richest race on the card, the Extra.ie Handicap.

The evergreen Enter The Red appeared the likely winner when heading Snowstar in the final strides, but Niall McCullough left it even later on Ice Cold In Alex, who lunged to get the verdict by a head.< Silverkode (5-2 favourite) also left it late but swooped to complete a hat-trick in the Irish Mail On Sunday Handicap.
