Review curragh 28th May
Aidan O'Brien continued his Classic domination as Winter trounced her rivals in the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh.
Churchill added the Irish 2,000 Guineas to his Newmarket success on Saturday, and Winter was a well-backed 8-13 favourite to supplement her triumph on the Rowley Mile.< Rehana and the O'Brien-trained Hydrangea took them along, but Ryan Moore had them in his sights on Winter, who cruised to the front inside the final quarter-mile and strolled clear to cross the line with four and three-quarter lengths in hand of stablemate Roly Poly with Hydrangea completing a clean sweep for team Ballydoyle.< Decorated Knight gave Roger Charlton a third success in the Tattersalls Gold Cup.
Charlton saddled Al Kazeem to win this Group One twice and was responsible for the only Brirish raider this year.
The 7-2 favourite travelled well just in behind the lead until Andrea Atzeni made his move inside the final quarter-mile and heading the front-running Success Days approaching the furlong marker, he then had enough in reserve to hold Somehow by a length and a quarter.
The O'Brien-trained Homesman continued on his upward curve with a determined victory in the Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes.< Born To Play took it up a furlong out but Homesman, in first-time blinkers, went with him and Moore got the 5-1 shot's head in front where it mattered.
O'Brien and Moore completed a treble thanks to Iron Mountain s victory in the O'Brien's Wines Irish EBF Maiden at odds of 2-1.
Less than a length separated five as they flashed past the post in the FBD Hotels & Resorts Castleknock Hotel Spring Fillies Handicap, but the good pot went the way of Jim Bolger's 5-1 chance Constant Comment
Commander Grigio (100-30) was an impressive winner of the Tally Ho Stud Irish EBF (C & G) Maiden, while classy jumper Whiteout (2-1 favourite) capitalised on a nice Flat mark in the Irish Tatler Handicap and Sea Wolf (5-1) defied top weight in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF 'Habitat' Handicap.
