On an afternoon when Kyprios did them proud once again over at Ascot, Moyglare Stud closed out two-year-old day at Leopardstown with success for the Ger Lyons-trained and Colin Keane-ridden Yamal in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Nursery Handicap.
In first-time blinkers 7/2 shot Yamal was never too far away before leading up the centre of the track over a furlong out. He then went on to defeat Native Honey by three and a quarter lengths.
“He travelled and the headgear obviously worked,” said Lyons.
“He's a big strapping, strong horse and he's not a two-year-old. We knew that was in him and his form said that was in him.
“I thought he parked the last day. He's in the horses-in-training sale so I've a decision to make with the owners, whether we'll move him on or keep him on the team for next year.
“He was always going to be a better three-year-old.
“If we think there is a big one in him we'll have a decision to make. That was better.”
D. McMonagle, rider of Desmond Castle trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was a bit slow into stride.
