Getoutwhenyoucan brought up his four-timer with a resolute display under 7lb-claimer Ger Fox in Limerick’s two mile handicap hurdle.
Fox, in the JP McManus colours, had him quickly into the lead and as he strode along he had his rivals all off the bridle on the turn for home. The one exception was Sammy Black who was being patiently ridden in fifth place by Danny Mullins.
Mullins was soon seen exerting his arms though, and was unable to get on terms with Getoutwhenyoucan who promptly jumped the last and was kept up to his work to score by four and a half lengths to cheer favourite backers who took the 5/2 on offer.
Sammy Black got second-placed money and he was two and a half lengths ahead of Wooly Tom (8/1) in third.
“He’s a real mudlark and it’s a big help to a horse like that. On good ground I don’t think he’d be the same horse. He handled heavy very well and today was the worst ever possible ground,” handler Charlie Swan reported.
“He’s genuine and tough and he’s a galloper. He could run at Fairyhouse, but it would need to be soft. The handicapper can’t be getting too carried away with him on that ground.”
The five-year-old son of Beneficial was running off a handicap mark 27lbs higher today than when he started his winning run in Naas back in January.
