Western Promise (25/1) delivered the goods at the 14th time of asking when staying on dourly in the extended three mile handicap chase at Roscommon with Mark Enright in the saddle.

The pair were prominent throughout and kept on well from the last for a four length verdict over Western Star at 10/1 (from 25/1 in the morning).

The winner, at the bottom of the handicap with 10 stone 2 on his back, was in first-time blinkers and provided trainer Shane Kieran Ryder with his first training success. Ryder trains in Ballinasloe, Co Galway.

The front two pulled well clear of the remainder. Bruff was third at 8/1 beaten 16 lengths and Bishop’s Lane, the 9/4 favourite, was fourth beaten 28 lengths.

Backers of 5/2 second favourite Markey Cee knew their fate early on as he crashed out at the second fence. Other fallers in the race were Code Dancer and Hushagoose
