Weld trains his 200th Galway Festival winner in front of 25,537 spectators
Curragh based Dermot Weld registered his 200th Galway Festival winner as a trainer when the Matt O'Connor ridden Lady Alicia won the William Hill Irish Sports Book 2008 QR Maiden today.
Weld, whose first winner at Galway as a trainer came 36 years ago later reported "it is great to get to 200 Festival winners but I'm thinking no further than the next race!"
He added "Matt (from Wexford, and 'Strawberry' to his friends) O'Connor is a very good young rider and he has a very good strike rate for me. I told him to hold her up to get the trip and he did it to perfection."
The attendance figure for the day was 25,537, 45 more people than at the corresponding fixture last year.
