We’llgowats overcame an absence of seven months and survived a stewards enquiry to land the Golf At Gowran Park Handicap Hurdle.
The easy-to-back 8/1 shot edged sharply right after hitting the front on the run-in and came across his two closest rivals.
Conor McNamara soon got the daughter of Dylan Thomas back on an even keel and she kept on well to beat Mullins Cross by a length with Quornofamonday a neck further back in third.
McNamara, who was given a three-day careless riding ban, said: “She was just purely idling in front. Maybe my fault I switched my stick to the left and hit her one and she ducked completely right underneath me.
“When I swapped to my right she straightened up then. She’s won cosy and pricked her ears at the line. She was well on top, the best horse.”
The eight-year-old mare, owned and trained by Liam O’Brien, was fitted with a tongue tie here for the first time and was adding to a win at Cork last summer.
