Wave Justifies Market Confidence
Seamus Dunne's black and yellow silks are a familiar sight in the National Hunt arena but his first horse with Ger Lyons, Wealdmore Wave (13/8 into 8/11) landed a good punt in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Race, coming home best to short head Red Rebellion
Keagan Latham got a good response from the Oratorio colt, who, after leading, dropped back to fourth over a furlong out. The closing stages just proved a little too much for newcomer, Red Rebellion, and Wealdmore Wave, with the experience of a run under his belt, done him on the line.
Lyons said: "That was a bit of a fright. At declaration time the ground was only supposed to be yielding so when the extra rain came I had thought about withdrawing him but felt as he was the only one in the race with experience, I'd let him take his chance. He wants seven furlongs to a mile, he is a very professional two-year-old and wants top of the ground. This is my first horse for the owner, Seamus Dunne, and it was important that we got off to a good start." (EM)
