The Denis Cullen-trained A Great View emerged victorious after an incident packed opener at Down Royal for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Rated Novice Chase.

2/1 favourite No Dice grabbed the lead after a couple of fences in the two-miler but he crashed out four from home leaving Double Scores in the lead.

A Great View, who had had to side-step Kick On Boss when he fell five out, worked his way into contention in the straight but blundered when trying to challenge at the second last.

Mark Walsh gave his mount a chance to recover and JP McManus’ gelding came with a renewed challenge at the last, leading on the run-in to record a two-length win at odds of 3/1.

“I’m delighted with that. His jumping just needs to improve a little bit,” said Cullen.

“He’s a bit novicey but he’s progressing. The race worked out for him. It cut up for him and he got his opportunity.

“Hopefully he’ll improve again and progress a little bit from that. He was a nice hurdler.

“He was very lucky as he nearly got brought down when the horse fell in front of him. He had to go right around him.

“Mark wanted to get him under the second last and he just kept galloping. He needs to learn a bit yet.”
