The Willie Mullins-trained Unexcepted blew away his rivals in some style to make a big impression on his Irish debut at Fairyhouse this afternoon.
The French-import hadn't been seen since finishing third on his sole start in his native land over two years ago.
Making his first outing for owner JP McManus he was settled in behind the leaders in the two-mile maiden hurdle before slipping up the rail to lead turning for home.
Mark Walsh 's mount skipped clear over the second last and was well on top jumping the final flight.
Walsh could afford to ease right down on the 11/8 shot close home to record a four-and-a-half length success. Jason The Militant just edged the runner-up spot by a short-head from 5/4 favourite The Very Man
The winner is a half-brother to classy two-mile chaser Great Field and McManus' racing manager Frank Berry said:-
“He had a little setback in the spring and had the summer off so it’s nice to see him back. Mark said he jumped very well and handled the ground.
“I don’t know the strength of the opposition but he couldn’t have done it any better.
“He’s a nice big horse.”
