Tylery Wonder the 6/1 favourite, came through under Billy Lee to land the opening six furlong handicap at the Curragh. Local Flier had got the better of Greek Canyon and Sassaway to lead over a furlong out. However, Tylery Wonder was making headway hand over fist in the centre of the track and he overpowered Local Flier inside the final furlong and went on to score by three parts of a length.

Trainer Willie McCreery said: “Billy wasted hard and fair dues to him he did the weight well. It was worth it as he knows him so well. It was a bad draw (in 5), but not a bad draw for him as he likes being on his own so it suited. Billy got him into a lovely rhythm and said he was always picking up.

“He'll go for the Bold Lad Handicap here over six furlongs. It's a premier handicap but he's justified that now. There is a race here in two weeks, but I don't think I'll bother as I don't want to run him too often.

“He does his work and likes a dip in the pool – he does a lovely breaststroke! He could tell you a fair bit about racing. He's the only horse of mine that comes here and doesn't turn a hair. He's a cool customer.

"The eyeshield seemed to work. I honestly can't work him out. He never runs a bad race at the Curragh. He likes getting off the box here at his local track."

Tom McCourt’s runner-up was returned at 10/1. Greek Canyon kept on for third also at 10s while In Salutem who was the morning price gamble, got a place dividend in fourth for his backers. In Salutem had been supported from 14/1 to 7/1 before racing, but came home at 8s.

This was Tylery Wonder’s first run sporting eyeshields.
