2/1 favourite Actuary won the Holden Plant Rentals Maiden, finding more in the last hundred yards to see off Beyond Happy (9/1) by two lengths.
The early leader Yankee Stadium (9/4) had every chance before coming home another neck away in third.
A gelded son of Helmet and a half-brother to the very useful dual-purpose performer Scarlet Dragon, the Paddy Twomey-trained winner had started off at with a fourth at Cork in August before finishing runner-up at Killarney earlier this month.
Twomey has had another fine season and, as in recent years, has maintained a very good strike rate with this being winner number 16 from 67 runners.
This win extended Colin Keane’s lead over Shane Foley in the jockeys’ title race to eight.
“He’d a good run the last day in Killarney and probably just didn’t get home to be honest," said Keane, riding in place of the suspended Billy Lee.
“He travelled like a winner everywhere and I couldn’t believe something came by him late on.
“The drop back in trip and the testing conditions played into his hands. He’s not a bad horse and I think he’s in the Horses-In-Training Sale.
“You’d imagine he’d jump a hurdle as well so he’d be a grand dual purpose horse.”
