Joseph O'Brien's Treasure Chest made it two in a row over fences with a length and half verdict in the Abbey Hotel Roscommon Handicap Chase.

The six-year-old son of Galileo tracked Roachdale House until that rival blundered and unseated Paddy Merrigan five out.

This left Treasure Chest and Afatcat disputing at the fourth last. The former soon led as he hugged the rail heading for home.

Treasure Chest had a host of challengers in behind, though, as he straightened up for the final three fences.

He was asked for more by JJ Slevin after three out and the 4/1 shot found plenty.

The pair jumped the last in charge as One In All (7/2) In tried to close, but the leader was too strong.

JP McManus' racing manager Frank Berry said: “He jumped away well and liked the ground. We'll find another little one for him.

“He's improving and getting his jumping together, it's better every day. The ground is a big thing for him, he's loving it.”

Treasure Chest also landed a handicap chase in Clonmel last month.
