Johnny Levins rode winners in the past over jumps in the Seamus Mannion silks on the likes of The Long Haul. Those orange, black and white colours were on another important winner for Levins at Ballinrobe this evening, as the Brian O'Connell-partnered Noble Call gave the now Curragh-based trainer his first victory in the jumps arena in the Connacht Spring Show May 18th Handicap Hurdle.

Noble Call adds to Levins' five successes on the level and here on attempt number thirty four all told, the King's Best gelding saw off the nicely-supported favourite Catchin Time (6s into 4s) by two and a quarter lengths.

"He's proved to be a very frustrating horse but I'm very fond of him – he's a likeable little devil.

"Brian gave him a brilliant ride – he got a breather into him going past the stands.

"I'm pleased that this fellow is my first National Hunt winner.

"He'll mix it and be kept busy," reported Levins.

The Stewards interviewed Mr K.S. Dalton, rider of Faranadooney (USA), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr K.S. Dalton was in breach of R10(3)(b) by continuously hitting his mount when his chance of being placed was clearly gone and consequently suspended him for 3 racedays having taken his previous record into consideration.
