On her 20th attempt Dedillon (13/2) most deservedly got off the mark in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Dundalk Maiden.
Vastly more experienced than runner-up and market-leader, Meishar the successful Dylan Thomas mare put that to good use for the father and son trainer/jockey team, Andy and Andrew Slattery.
Try as he might Meishar couldn’t reel Dedillon in, inside the final furlong, and a neck eventually separated them.
They left Mudawy four and a half lengths back in third.
The winning trainer’s brother Brian said on Sean Rushe’s five-year-old:- “She deserved that, she's been very consistent and has been the bridesmaid on her last three runs. She's been second six times overall.
“Hopefully there will be something here for her on finals night, we'll have a look at that.
“We'll keep her going as long as her owner is happy to.”
M.A. Enright, rider of Stalingrad (GB) trained by J.A.Stack, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a noise in running.
At the request of the Stewards, G.F. Carroll, rider of Caught In The Wild trained by John C. McConnell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount bounced out and made the running, he gave him a squeeze and a slap down the shoulder in the straight but there was nothing there and he had nothing left at the line.
