Armagh based trainer Ronan McNally and his horse The Trigger traversed the country in style today, landing the Dawn Omega Milk Handicap Chase at Killarney, following a six and a half hour spin down.

The son of Beneficial was a dual point to point winner in the past two years and today, under jockey Philip Enright, arrived late to score a length and a half win over Crocodile Dundee

McNally, who himself also holds an amateur jockeys’ license, afterwards revealed “he was very disappointing the last day over in England when I thought he’d have won - Dickie Johnson (British Champion Jockey hit the front far too soon! He just needed to be produced late today and I’m delighted.

“He’s probably not much better than (88 rated) that but we’ll look for another wee chase now and it was a long journey down.

“I didn’t ride him myself because I’m struggling a wee bit as I’m busy with work and have five horses for the summer. Trying to diet was killing me a bit but I’ll still ride (stablemate) See Double You before the end of the year.

“I run a kitchen business - Krafty Kitchens & Bedrooms so I’m kept busy - it took me six and a half hours to come down today!”

STEWARDS REPORTS

D.E. Splaine, rider of Cloneen Choice trained by Don Browne, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up having hung left and made a respiratory noise during this race.

A. Ring, rider of Rufino trained by P.J. Rothwell, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount went wrong after the third last hurdle.

C.D. Timmons, rider of Ard Cregg trained by V. T. O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up having jumped violently to the left and never travelled from thereon.

The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Hugh Hynes, that Mr W.J. Gleeson, rider of Just Wait And See had weighed in at 1.4lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he had weighed out correctly but a girth broke while his mount was being tacked up and the trainer had replaced it with a heavier girth. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Mr W.J. Gleeson was in breach of Rule 231 and consequently cautioned him .
