There was early drama in the Group Two Kilboy Estate Stakes with Oodnadatta unseating Shane Foley leaving the stalls. It was another local challenger, Insinuendo (11/8 favourite), that had the final say at the business end, for Willie McCreery at the Curragh.
Mrs Harrington’s Oodnadatta appeared to have tried to charge the gates, which may have seen Foley lose his balance, and he was soon off the 11/2 chance.
English challenger Angel Power drifted from 13/8 out to 5/2, and she was usurped for market supremacy by Insinuendo (2/1 into 11/8).
Wonderfully progressive, McCreery’s Insinuendo got the better of April Showers in the final furlong to win by a length and three parts.
Angel Power was never really looking like mounting a telling challenge under Silvestre De Sousa, and the King Power Racing-owned and Roger Varian-trained four-year-old ended up beating just Martinque home, at the back of the small field.
“This was always the plan after she won her Group 3. She’s a lovely filly and she did that well,” said McCreery.
“She’s in the Matron and we might travel with her as well.
“Billy said she moved beautifully on the ground. He said it was a little bit quick coming down the hill but other than that it was perfect.
“He said she travelled lovely through the race and always thought he was going to get to them. She just idled a bit when she hit the front.
“I wanted to give her time and Michael (Deegan, owner) has been very patient. It’s one of the first horses that he’s had with me so I’m delighted for him.”
