The Denis Hogan trained The Mad Well made it two wins from his two starts at Sligo, when easily landing the Guinness Opportunity Handicap Hurdle today under a well judged ride from Andrew Ring.
The son of Milan won at the venue when last in action in May and was again held up off the pace today, before making late progress to eventually score a nine lengths win over Celtic Monarch
Trainer/jockey Hogan was ineligible for the ride himself but later commented “the race cut up a bit due to the ground but he's an improver.
“He came out of the last race well and I gave him a little holiday and he freshened up well. He likes a little ease in the ground and could go to Galway for the two-and-a-half mile handicap hurdle.
“It's great for the owners - they've been good supporters of mine and are a good bunch of people (Pauline Twiss, Stephen O'Brien, Joe White and Mark O'Sullivan).”
