The Banger Doyle gained a deserved win in the Old House, Kill (Pro/Am) Flat Race at Punchestown following a number of placed efforts against smart types such as Ballyadam and Sir Gerhard.
The Windsor Knot gelding adopted his customary front-running role but was strongly pressed in the straight by Aslukwoodhavit
The Banger Doyle edged left towards his rival and was headed inside the final furlong but rallied gamely under pressure for Finny Maguire to prevail by half a length.
The places were confirmed following a stewards enquiry.
Winning trainer Keith Watson said, “He’s been a consistent horse and has run every race to the line. I’m more than happy to get that for John (Nicholson, owner/breeder).
“He’s had five bumpers so he deserves a break now. He’s as tough as nails. We have been nearly forced to run him as he’s been so well.”
Nicholson added, “The dam (Knockcroghery) won six times and she won three of those races in nine days. She was a tough mare.
“He won’t be a horse until next year. He’s a big horse and is growing all the time. I’m delighted for Keith and Marshall as they have put a lot of work into it.”
