In a somewhat similar fashion to the previous handicap on the card, two of them showed the rest how it was done in race four at Navan. Hot owner/trainer combination James McAuley and Denis Hogan struck again with Kerosin (5s into 4s) in the www.navanracecourse.ie Handicap.
Ten pound apprentice Joey Sheridan rode his third winner here, always up there on Kerosin before getting the better of another to the fore throughout, Shakespear’sgallery, by three parts of a length. It was two and a half lengths then to Charlie Stout in third.
“Thank-god the gap opened because I don't know where I would have went if it didn't," admitted Sheridan, a 17-year-old from Hollyford in County Tipperary.
He added: “I have to give a big thanks to Denis and obviously to James and Stephen McAuley and Jim Gough. They've been my biggest supporters since I got my licence three months ago.
“They've given me my first ride, first winner and now the winner to lose my 10lb claim so I have to give a big thanks to them.
“It's easy when you have the horse underneath you.”
The Stewards wished to interview J.M. Sheridan, rider of Kerosin (GER), concerning his frequent use of the whip during this race. J.M. Sheridan, in the presence of Ms Meghan Donovan, Authorised representative of Denis Gerard Hogan, trainer of Kerosin (GER), accepted that he had three previous breaches R10(3) since the new whip Regulations came into effect. Having considered the riders acceptance of his disciplinary record in relation to R10(3), the Stewards pursuant to R10(6) referred the matter to the Referrals Committee for consideration.
