Oisin Orr rode out his claim at Gowran today as his landmark 95th winner was gained on the Dermot Weld trained Anya Ylina in the Kilkenny Pembroke Hotel (Fillies) Maiden.
Orr has made big strides this year due to his link-up with trainer Weld and on Anya Ylina, a half-sister to Group 1 winner Dominant, he steered his 19th winner this year, two of which have been gained in Group 3 successes for Weld.
Anya Ylina, a daughter of Oasis Dream, readily beat her 12 rivals and following the race Weld stated “she did it nicely. She progressed well from when she was third here, she ran a lovely race and did what we thought she'd do. She's a nice filly for the future and hopefully we'll go up to stakes level now, probably at a mile or a mile-and-a-quarter. She came home well there.
“You'd hope that she'd be, potentially, a very nice black-type/stakes filly. It was a mile there today and I think another furlong or two would be well within her compass.”
Regarding jockey Orr he added “to lose his claim is a great credit to him. He had a quiet year last year and we supported him. I put him up in the big handicap at York.
“I've always been an admirer of his. It'll be difficult for him keeping his weight but provided he does he has a big future.
“There are a lot of very good young riders in the country. Ben Coen and Andy Slattery, who rode a couple of winners for me over the weekend, and many others.
“Chris Hayes rides for me in the Epsom Oaks on Friday and Oisin goes to Germany for me tomorrow to ride in the Group Two.
“It's a big day for him there again tomorrow. I'd imagine it's his first Group 2 ride.
“If he gets a break on the weight he has the potential to do very well. He's a very talented young rider.”
