A mistake at the last threatened to derail Show And Go s bid for glory in the Goffs Punchestown Invitational Sale Handicap Chase. However the 9/2 joint favourite got there in time to land the spoils under Dylan Robinson.
Robinson has eighteen winners under his belt now, which means he has two left with his seven pound allowance. He shouldn't be long about achieving that goal judged on his performance aboard this Henry de Bromhead-trained victor. Mount Brandon was making the best of his way home at the time of Show And Go's mistake, but he was 'nailed' near the line. A neck split them, and there was two and a half lengths back to Glen Ode in third.
"I'm delighted for his owner, John Phelan, who is based in the UK. Dylan gave him a super ride. That's his third winner this week and he's well worth his 7lb claim," said de Bromhead.
"A strongly run two miles or two two suits him, and he struggles a bit over further.
"Identity Thief is a bit better today and is getting there. As he backed off a few fences, other horses were jumping into him and he's got a few cuts and scrapes. He also ripped off a shoe."
The Stewards requested a report from Robert Tyner, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Mount Brandon, placed second, as compared with its recent form.
The trainer reported that his charge is a very ordinary sort and despite several runs, had failed to register a win.
He added his charge appears to have a liking for this right handed track, having finished second in this race last year and felt this may have brought about the apparent improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
