Rookie Tramore-based trainer John Flavin has made a dream start after recently taking over from his father Pat. Street Value doubled up after getting Flavin off the mark at Clonmel nine days back, in the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle at Gowran today.
Soon settled off the pace behind the leaders by Barry John Foley, the 2/1 scorer was a moderate fourth at the halfway stage.
Ridden in fifth three out, the Well Chosen gelding stayed on into third two out. He led before the last, keeping on strongly on the run-in to beat Oscar Sam (33/1) by six lengths.
Favourite Pairc Na Ngael never convinced with the way he was travelling and ended up pulling up before three out.
"He is tough, is a relentless galloper and I thought Barry John gave him a lovely ride and let the race unfold in front of him,” said Flavin.
"Even though his last run was only a week ago I knew he'd improve for the experience of being in a first handicap. He just loves this ground and that’s the main reason I left him in it for such a good pot and from such good sponsors.
"That's my third runner as a trainer - I had one earlier, but shouldn't have bothered bringing him at all!"
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Pairc Na Ngael, trained by C.Byrnes, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.
E. Walsh, rider of Magic Sea trained by Sarah Dawson, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount did not handle the ground.
