She gave a couple of flicks of her tail on the run-in but who could blame her under such demanding conditions as 28/1 shot Grange Hall saw it out well to land the Sligo Races Supporters Club Beginners Chase under Adam Short. Golden Plan was putting it up to Grange Hall from before the last, as the favourite Havana Dancer could only keep going at the same pace at that stage.

Golden Plan tried hard from there home but he couldn't live with the Paul Stafford-trained Grange Hall who prevailed by three and a half lengths.

Grange Hall was having her first outing for 372 days and she was rank outsider of the eight strong field.

After a career haul of four winners now Short (19) from Wicklow explained: "I was based with Stuart Crawford last year and I'm based with Paddy and James Griffin now in the mornings and I ride out for Paul (Stafford) in the afternoons.

"She jumps great - that's only her first run of the season and we thought she'd need it. She's hardy out though and has a great attitude.

"Hopefully she has a big season ahead of her."

For his part Stafford said: "I thought she would have to make it and was surprised there was so much pace. She can be quite free and it's all worked out well.

"We've always thought a lot of her, and she won easily at Hexham about 18 months ago. She's had a few minor problems here and there, and I'm delighted for her owner, John Blake. He's a taxi driver from Artane but is a great help to me, and actually led her up today."

J.J. Burke, rider of Sir Ector (USA) trained by Miss Nicole McKenna, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled during this race.
