Son Of Rest put up a fine weight-carrying performance to take the featured €50,000 Junefest Handicap at the Curragh.
The son of Pivotal handled soft ground well when opening his account in a Cork maiden earlier this season, and the testing conditions again here certainly proved to his liking.
The 4/1 favourite travelled sweetly to challenge the front-running Patuano over a furlong out, and asserted under Chris Hayes inside the final 100 yards to score by a length and three quarters.
The remainder of the 11 runners were well strung out behind, with Idyllic Acrylic a further four and a half lengths away in third.
Winning trainer Fozzy Stack said, “That’s his job — sprinting. It probably won’t be soft enough at Ascot so he could go for the six-furlong Listed race (Belgrave Stakes) at the Curragh on Derby weekend.”
The Thomastown Castle trainer also had news of his smart two-year-old Commander Grigio saying, “He’s been in good form since he won at the Curragh, and did a nice bit of work on Friday.
“He’s just growing a bit at the moment and Ascot will be coming a bit soon for him. He’ll wait for the Railway Stakes.”
