Willie Mullins saddled a one, two and completed a quick double as So Young over turned his better fancied stable mate Zaidpour when taking the feature race at Gowran this afternoon, the Grade 2 Red Mills Trial Hurdle.
So Young was sent off at 11/4 under David Casey while Zaidpour went off the 4/6 favourite with Paul Townend in the saddle.
Rory O’Moore attempted to make all but he was pegged back at the third last as the rest of the field closed up.
Zaidpour hit the front after two out and it looked as if he would kick on from there however So Young stayed on best and hit the front just before the last, going on to score by a comfortable six lengths.
Zaidpour had to settle for a disappointing second while Rory O’Moore ran on to take third under Andrew McNamara for Ronald O’Neill.
Willie Mullins said afterwards: "I'm not sure about him now as I thought he was a stayer. David (Casey) was happy with him at all stages and he just stood off the second last before he went on again.
"Paul (Townend) said Zaidpour was a bit lifeless.
"He (So Young) is entered in the World Hurdle but he could also go for the County Hurdle or the Coral Cup. He could also stay at home.
"At least he has an important graded win to his name now. He should be able to be winning these type of races but he hasn’t been doing it."
