Snellen (7/4f) ran a remarkable race to win the Irish EBF Median Sires Series Fillies Maiden in Limerick.
She attempted to burn her rivals off in the final quarter of a mile of this seven-furlong assignment. Inside the final furlong, though, Gary Carroll's mount veered markedly left across the track giving up a lot of ground but still managed to pass the post with three-quarters of a length in hand.
A stewards' enquiry was called to look into possible interference caused close home, but the result stood. Ennereilly (10/1) finished second, a head in front of Profit Refused (14/1).
Snellen was victorious in a six furlong barrier trial at Naas on May 29th.
This was her track debut for Gavin Cromwell.
Carroll said: "It wasn't like her (to hang), but she jumped and travelled into the straight and picked up when I wanted. The horse in front of me was hanging out left and I think she half-went to go with it, but kept going.
"I don't know what it was - possibly greenness, but, to be fair, in the last furlong I didn't push her as I was trying to keep her straight. She won with loads in hand and is a nice filly in the making, once she gets over that greenness."
