Silence Speaks wins dramatic Wexford chase

Fri 2nd Jul 2010, 21:45

There was a dramatic conclusion to the bunch-finish St Patrick's Rock Handicap Chase at Wexford today, when third placed Courella dramaticaly clipped heels and slipped up close to the line, in a race narrowly won by Silence Speaks

Courella's jockey Alan Crowe was forced to 'grab up' his mount near the line as Pipers Blaze edged left and effectively brought down Courella, in a driving finish. The bunch-finish had involved four horses, winner Silence Speaks, second-past-the-post Pipers Blaze, third placed Loch Na Beaste and Courella.

An enquiry was subsequently called and Pipers Blaze's jockey John Cullen was later suspended for two days for careless riding. The Stewards' took into account Cullen's excellent recent (ie in the last 18 months) record in this regard.
