Fille Du Septembre stuck to her task gamely to land the spoils in a tight finish to the opening two-year-old maiden at Dundalk this evening.
The Dermot Weld-trained filly was sent off 13/8 favourite for the five furlong contest but missed the kick slightly.
Pat Smullen worked his way into contention turning for home on the daughter of Choisir.
She was driven along to challenge between Summerseat Mist and Sirici going to the furlong pole and found more close home to stick her head in front for a head victory.
Sirici just claimed the runner-up spot by another head from Summerseat Mist after the three-way battle inside the final furlong.
Fille Du Septembre is out of a winning half-sister to champion two-year-old Superstar Leo.
"She was a bit sluggish out of stalls, and had a rug on as she is a bit temperamental. Thankfully they went a good pace, and she finished off the race well,” said Smullen.
"I was really happy the way she picked up between horses and really wanted it. She was bought to be a sharp early filly and she's all that. Hopefully she will be a bit more professional the next day and improve off it."
