The High Chaparral filly Sea Swift bred by the executors of the late Mrs Weld, was impressive under Pat Smullen in the Calumet Farms silks in the Students Day 28th September Race at Sligo.

Following up her maiden win from Naas on June 22nd, when she provided Dermot Weld with his 4,000th winner, 7/4 favourite Sea Swift led before the straight and she was soon in command.

In the end the three-year-old was on top in the four runner contest by eleven lengths from My Brother

"She's a nice filly. She won her maiden well and the step up in distance helped," commented Smullen.

"We didn't know if she would handle ground that deep but she went through it well.

"I knew three furlongs out I had it won, she travelled extremely well.

"She's a filly I like going forward and I think there is more improvement to come."

Mark Weld added:- "It's been a little frustrating this evening. The ground has been troublesome, it's very deep and not every horse handles it.

"She got through it very well. She's a home-bred and is a half-sister to the nice juvenile, Right Honourable, who won at Galway.

"That's two winners in two weeks for the mare and please god this filly can go on and get black-type."
