Owner J.P. McManus had six of the fourteen runners in the featured BARONERACING.COM Leinster National Handicap Chase and ended up with a 1-2-3 as Scoir Mear landed the first prize under Simon Torrens.

The 11-year-old grey, winning for the fifth time in his career, was never far off the pace and led before the second-last.

The 7/2 favourite Ten Ten challenged on the run-in but ultimately was held by two lengths, with Fitzhenry (9/1) running on for third another five and a half lengths away.

It was another valuable success for in-demand 5lb claimer Torrens after his high-profile double at last month’s Dublin Racing Festival.

Winning trainer Tom Mullins said: “He’s been consistent all year. He’s a horse that needs a bit of light and I said to Simon to go wide and keep him happy. He said he loved it and jumped from fence to fence.

“We’ll see what Frank and JP want to do and maybe he could go for the Irish National. I’m happy enough with today anyway.

“Chavi Artist (stablemate in fifth) was jumping so high at some of them that he couldn’t finish out. He went really high at the fourth last and went down on his nose.

“I felt that was the end of him but he came back into the race so he must have run a cracker. I’ll have to teach him to stay out of the clouds!”
