Count D'orsay made the breakthrough on his eleventh start, as he took the EMS Copiers Supporting Kildare Chamber Maiden.
A good fourth of twenty-two on his penultimate start at Navan, the Charles O'Brien trained three-year-old was since tried in handicap company, finishing eighth behind Nitro Boost in a valuable contest at the Curragh.
Available at 14/1 this morning, the son of Dandy Man came in for plenty of market support, opening on-course at 8s before going off a 6/1 chance.
Drawn on the rail in stall one, the Wayne Lordan ridden bay was prominent throughout and held a definite advantage over a furlong from home.
He was soon ridden and kept on well in the closing stages, holding off the late surge Hiella by a neck.
The runner-up, who needed to be switched over a furlong out, was returned at 25/1 under Niall McCullagh for Johnny Murtagh, while Sun Sign (11/1), another to finish strongly, was three parts of a length back in third.
"I'm pleased for the horse as much as anything," said O'Brien.
"It's very hard to place a three-year-old over five furlongs in this country. They are all six furlong races or else you are taking on the older horses.
"He's goes to the July Sale. He's probably off quite a good mark on the basis of that so hopefully someone will pick him up.
"He's a sound little horse and is very straight-forward. He's fairly easy to recommend."
STEWARDS REPORTS
W.J. Lee, rider of Designation trained by W. McCreery, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got no run.
Miss J. Ellis, trainer of Quintana Roo (GB), reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her charge lost a front shoe.
The Stewards enquired into an incident approximately 50 yards from the finish involving No Nay Yellow ridden by C.D. Hayes, Hiella, ridden by N.G. McCullagh, and Lon Dubh ridden by L.F. Roche, where it appeared Lon Dubh checked. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that the incident was caused by accidental interference and took no further action.
