A fine leap at the last sealed victory for Rubert in the 2m2f handicap chase at Clonmel this afternoon.

Robbie Power won the early battle for the lead on the Denis Cullen-trained gelding and the Rudimentary gelding kept on well in the closing stages to land the spoils.

11/4 favourite A Fine Young Man looked a threat going to the final fence but was out-jumped by the winner who was in control on the run-in.

New Phase ran on to take second but could only get within two-and-three-quarter lengths.

The 10/1 winner had been outclassed behind Flemenstar at Navan on Sunday but was back in his own grade today.

“We’ll head straight to Leopardstown (on St Stephen’s Day) for the 2m1f handicap chase in which he was second last year,” revealed Cullen.

“Robbie looked after him the last day in Navan and it left him spot on for here. I’m delighted for owner Kieron Gammell who has been a great supporter of mine.”
