Rossvoss stayed on stoutly to take the spoils in the two mile six handicap chase at Punchestown.

The five-year-old gelding took home the 15,600 euro prize for father and son Ted and Ruby Walsh. The Doorman led but made a bad blunder four out and unseated Mark Walsh. The field had bunched right up at this stage. Dromnea held a narrow advantage from Guitar Pete at the second last but Guitar Pete made a mistake which cooked his chances as he finished a one-paced fifth from there.

Rossvoss made good headway under Walsh to pick off Dromnea at the last and kept at it well to win by two lengths.

Dromnea had to settle for second at 11/2 with Ad Idem in third at 8/1.

"I was going to run him in the cross-country race but when I saw On His Own and a few other highly rated ones in there I thought he might as well run in his own company," Ted Walsh said.

"I may run him in the cross-country handicap at Cheltenham in December. He jumps those fences well.

"He went around with On His Own here during the week and jumped a few fences around the bottom."

The Stewards requested a report from T.M. Walsh, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Rossvoss (GB), placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge disappointed on his last start in Sligo, when never travelling. He added that there was no obvious explanation for the poor run other than that the horse can be inconsistent. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
