The Willie Mullins trained Un Beau Roman made up for his recent Killarney mishap as he took the last at Tramore this evening the Waterford 1100 – Ireland’s Oldest City Beginners Chase.
The six-year-old French bred gelding was home and hosed on his last start at the Co Kerry venue only to fall at the last on his debut over fences.
Sent off the 1/2 favourite to make amends this evening he raced in second before coming with his challenge after the third last.
He hit the front before the next and asserted on the approach to the last, going on from there to score easily by seven lengths. Caolaneoin who attempted to make all, finished second under David Casey for Colm Murphy at 5/1 while Tisamystery was a further six and a half lengths back in third.
Winning rider Paul Townend said afterwards: "He done what we expected him to do. I suppose he was clever again over his fences, he jumped brilliant the last day bar the last. It is nice that it hasn’t knocked his confidence."
