Quick Jack was turned out quickly to win the two mile handicap hurdle after finishing second in the valuable Guinness Handicap on the flat yesterday.
The four-year-old gelding scampered clear between the second last and the final flight and was kept up to his work by Shane Shortall to fend off Luimneach Abu who stayed on well on the run-in, but was half a length down at the winning post.
Handler Tony Martin said: “He’s a great owner [John Breslin] and he’s on a roll and I’m delighted for him. He ran a blinder yesterday and it was a big ask to come out today. We’re fortunate it worked. The young fella gave him a great ride.
“He deserves a crack now at something like the November Handicap and also has the option of staying over hurdles. He’ll get a well-deserved break now.”
Some bets were landed as Quick Jack justified 5/4 favouritism. He was as big as 9/4 this morning before backers latched on to him at the bottom of the weights in this handicap . The runner-up Luimneach Abu had his supporters on course from 7/1 to 5/1.
Outsider Debt To Society at 25/1 garnered third-placed money for Michael Hourigan and Conor Ring.
