Cheap As Chips was sent off the 33/1 outsider in the 13-runner Carrick-On-Suir Mares Handicap Hurdle following a number of disappointing efforts over fences at the end of 2013 but sprung back to form here in devastating fashion.
The daughter of Mr Dinos made all to gain her only previous victory at Wexford 12 months ago, and Andrew Ring adopted the same tactics here.
She stretched right away in the straight to beat Lead Kindly Light by a facile ten lengths, with 2/1 favourite Avondhu Lady another two and a half lengths back in third.
Winning trainer Philip Rothwell said, “We gave her a break after her last run to freshen her up and she deserved this. I declared three yesterday but was 50-50 about running as I thought it would be too soft for the three of them.
“Getting her own way on a track like this suited but she might not be able to dictate on a more galloping track. I’m happy with her chase mark as well!”
Andrew Ring said, “She was on a nice mark and did it well. I was saying to myself coming down the hill are we finishing this time as she was going so well!”
