Princess Leya demolished her nine opponents in the mares’ bumper at Cork as she hacked up by 18 lengths.
Declan Lavery (back riding as an amateur) sent her to the front in the home straight and she quickly ended the contest in pulling well clear. He pushed out her to score by a wide margin.
Mags Mullins trains the Old Vic four-year-old and said of her: “She’s a lovely mare. We’ll see what she’s like after this, but we might campaign her in those mares bumpers.”
On debut Princess Leya was fourth in a 20-runner bumper in Gowran Park, beaten two and three quarter lengths. She had been backed when the markets opened this morning from 4/1 to 11/4, however, she went off at 7/2. Discover Wexford the 5/2 favourite, moved into contention with two furlongs to go, but couldn’t deal with the winner after that. She took second and Behana was two lengths further away in third at 6/1.
