Ger O'Leary recorded his biggest win to date, as his Primo Uomo took the feature at Navan this evening, the Listed Woodlands Stakes.
A somewhat unlucky third in this race twelve months ago when a 7/2 chance, the son of Strategic Prince was placed on his two runs this year, both of which were at Dundalk.
Back on the turf today he went off an easy to back 20/1 chance in the colours of Lance Bloodstock Limited, having opened on-course at 14s.
Settled behind the leaders on the outer, he was pushed along to lead from the furlong pole, and kept on well from there to score by a length and three parts. Gorane (20/1) finished a gallant second under Declan McDonogh for Henry de Bromhead, while the 6/4 favourite Washington DC was another two and a quarter lengths back in third.
"That's my biggest ever win and my heart is pumping. It's awesome and we'll have a couple of bottles of champagne tonight," said O'Leary.
"Niall gave him a superb ride. He said to me after Cork last year that he was a horse that could go anywhere and after his couple of runs this year he kept the faith.
"He said he was a winner two furlongs out today and it was a matter of how far. I'm thrilled and delighted.
"Niall said when he got off that we can go wherever we want now and we'll rock up in all those good races.
"We'll stick to five with him as we tried to get a bit of prize-money over six at Dundalk last time and he just petered out."
