Robbie Power got his just desserts for taking the bull by the horns on Ttebbob (16/1) in the opening Munster Hurdle at Clonmel.

Power, successful on that decent mare, Rock On The Moor, also for Ttebbob's trainer, Jessica Harrington, at Punchestown yesterday, soon took over here in front when the early pace of the extended two mile three furlong event proved to be funereal.

Market-leaders Aklan Cliff House and Killer Crow under-performed, eventually filling the last three places, and it was left to Western Boy to throw down the challenge to Ttebbob in the straight.

Western Boy pecked two out and he was soon ridden, and on the run-in it was Ttebbob that was strongest by two lengths.

"It wasn't the plan to make it but no one wanted to go on. I was told to get him settled in last but when nobody wanted to make it, I took the bull by the horns and he settled great in front," explained Power.

"I'd have been shot if it didn't work out!

"He has had a few problems and should improve for the run."

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Aklan, trained by W.P. Mullins, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing exceptionally hard post race.

R. Walsh, rider of Aklan, trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled throughout this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Killer Crow, trained by W.P. Mullins, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard post race.
