The card at Galway today was bookended by two shock winners after 50/1 shot Poormans Hill lunged late to land the concluding bumper. Big Bad Brian made a bold bid from the front in the two-mile two-furlong contest and kicked a few lengths clear turning for home.

He was collared inside the final furlong by Deise Diamond but Tom O'Brien got a great tune from Poormans Hill in the closing stages as he got up on the line for a head success.

The John Neilan-trained winner had unseated at the start on his debut at Ballinrobe and the locally based handler said:-

“We liked him all along and have him since a foal. We sold him to a syndicate of local lads.

“He unseated at the start in Ballinrobe so today was his first run really. He's still very green.

“Hopefully he has a future. If he had finished in the first four or five today I'd have been happy so this is great.”
