Walkers Point made all as he ran out a good winner of the last at Cork, the Follow Cork Racecourse On Twitter Flat Race.
Third on his first two starts the David O'Brien trained four-year-old went off a 7/1 chance (touched 8's on-course) today with Declan Queally in the saddle.
Sent straight to the front he was challenged as they entered the home straight but he soon kicked on again and kept on well under pressure from over a furlong out, scoring by two lengths at the line. Ah Littleluck finished second under Noel McParlan for Tom Gibney at 8/1 while Gracenkate (Ambrose McCurtin for John Joe Walsh) was a neck back in third at 40/1. Pont De Alma was sent off the 8/15 favourite and she finished a very disappointing fifth under Patrick Mullins for his father Willie.
David O'Brien said afterwards: "I always knew he was a nice horse but he was wicked jittery breaking him.
"I ran him twice and he surprised me how well he ran but really got it together today.
"He kept finding more the whole way and where he goes next depends on whether an offer comes in as his owner (Aidan Fogarty) is a seller.
"He'll could go for a winners' bumper but will make a nice national hunt horse as he jumps well."
STEWARDS REPORTS
The Stewards interviewed Mr N. McParlan, rider of Ah Littleluck, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found the rider in breach of Reg 10. 3 (f) by using his whip with excessive frequency and having taken his record into account suspended him for two race days.
