Pitlochry swoops late for unlikely win
In-running punters were, to use the popular forum word, ‘gubbed’ in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Auction Maiden at Naas this evening, with 11/8 favourite Catamount matching for €22,000 at 1.01 on Betfair, before throwing away what looked certain victory to Pitlochry who swooped late for a head win.
Catamount went clear from two furlongs out and appeared to have the race in safe keeping before Pitlochry (16/1), Keagan Latham, stayed on late to grab the leader close home.
Afterwards winning trainer Ger Lyons (who also had the seemingly better fancied Burn The Boats in the race) stated “Pitlochry is a nice colt and while I thought the two horses would run well, I expected both to improve for the run.”
“Pitlochry will step up to a winners’ race now but there aren’t many races about for these types of horses unless you go for a black-type contest.”
