Piri Wango advertised the training skills of Ger Lyons when overcoming a 20-month spell on the sidelines to take the featured Goresbridge Breeze Up At Gowran Park May 22 & 23 Handicap.

The son of Choisir was up with the pace throughout and, after coming under pressure in the straight, stayed on gamely inside the final furlong.

Colin Keane 's mount, a 4/1 chance, battled gamley to just get the better of Einsteins Folly by a neck.

The pair stretched three and a half lengths clear of Castle Guest in third.

Lyons said, “He was off with a leg injury for a year but had a good holiday down in Cork near his owner David Spratt. To be honest his work was only average but we hoped the racecourse would light him up.

“Colin said he took a blow about two furlongs out and thought that was it but he kept on well. We are trying to build a good team together for Royal Ascot and he’s still on the team!”
