Pirateer makes all as O'Brien gets four day ban

Mon 13th Sep 2010, 15:58

Seamus Heffernan gave Pirateer a fine front-running ride to claim the nursery at Listowel. Treasure Beach was sent off 5/4 favourite, with trainer Aidan O'Brien saddling three, but found himself short of room in the straight.

Joseph O'Brien made a gap for himself inside the final furlong but the colt got going too late and could only get within a length-and-a-half of his stable-mate.

"He's an improving sort like all of Aidan's and handled the ground well," said Heffernan of the winner afterwards.

Joseph O'Brien was given a four-day ban for careless riding after a stewards enquiry into the incident in which he bumped into Jamesie

They left the placings unchanged after deciding that Treasure Beach had not improved his finishing position as a result of the interference.
