Peter From Paris sprang a 50/1 shock in the maiden hurdle at Naas as 1/3 shot The Mighty Milan proved a major disappointment.

Shane Hassett made all on the Denis Prendergast-trained gelding, who stretched clear in the closing stages to record a convincing 10-length success.

The winner had been well beaten on his two previous racecourse appearances having been placed in two point-to-points.

Hassett reported afterwards:- “I did a lot of schooling on him as a young horse and always liked him.

“His point-to-point form wasn't too bad but it just didn't work out for him on his first two runs. Today it did work out and it worked out a treat!”

The Mighty Milan was a hotpot for the 2m3f contest but was a spent force when slow over the third last and he soon pulled up under Barry Geraghty.
