If anyone thought that it couldn't get worse for form book students, after the win of 33/1 shot Yes Man in the 7.25, they were wrong. Half-an-hour later at Sligo, Luckey Seven on his first start since a point-to-point run in November 2013, popped up at 66/1 under Andrew Ring in the Martinstown Opportunity Maiden Hurdle.

Starting off for the Eoin Doyle yard and having his initial outing over flights, Luckey Seven began his move from the rear from before the third last hurdle.

The successful nine-year-old asserted from before the last to see off the well-backed favourite Glencairn View (100/30 into 9/4) by four and three parts of a length.

As a half-brother to 2011 Champion Hurdle runner-up, Peddlers Cross, Luckey Seven certainly had something to recommend him, and Ring stated: "It looked a competitive race and they went very quick early on. It was only at the fourth last that he jumped on the bridle and he'll improve again from today.

"He feels like a decent horse and is well bred and can only improve. He wants a bit of slower ground and he'll get a trip."

The Winning CVK Syndicate includes Kilmacow brothers Peadar and Sean Kelly, along with Richard Vereker.
